How about that All-Star pre-game ceremony?

george.jpg Steinbrenner was George SteinbrennerHow about that All-Star pre-game ceremony? The game hasn’t started yet, but so far, I give thumbs up to the evening. MLB and even Joe Buck and FOX did a pretty good job, I thought, with the pre-game ceremonies. And to paraphrase Bill Simmons, things got a little - make that a lot - dusty in the Squawker mansion when George Steinbrenner came out. What an emotional moment. He was crying, I was crying, and I imagine most Yankee fans were crying when seeing him tonight It was great to see so m read

All Star Game Live Blog
Randy Johnson, George Steinbrenner, George Steinbrenner Note To SelfThe Yankee Stadium All Star Game is finally here, and I will be blogging the whole thing (unless I get tired, in which case I will stop). Let’s get rolling. 8:02: Joe Buck speaks about Bob Sheppard, who gets a standing ovation. Nice moment. It is sad that Bob is not well enough to be at the game, but hopefully he will be back with the team soon. 8:03: Alfonso Soriano gets a nice cheer from the faithful during introductions, Wagner and Wright from the Mets get mixed reviews. MLB All-Star Game Live Blog [MLB All-Star Game]
that George M. Steinbrenner, Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses." I can think of a better way to summarize the Yankees' strategy for trading deadline maneuvers. Ben Sheets and Cliff Lee will go about two innings, whereas Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are scheduled to go the distance. Follow all the commissioner-mandated fierce competition after the jumpski, because this time the live blog counts. —————————————————————————————————————— 10:21 — Pujols lines a ball back to DHnd base for a single. Should I Stick With Countrywide Savingslink?

Fire House WORLD invites WORLD go to www.fdic.com for complete qualify right now. I think there is at least a 5% chance they could go bankrupt. Wells Fargo on the other hand is as safe as they come (but their savings rates are a lot lower). So the way I view Countrywide right now is that as long as I am below the FDIC insurance limit and as long as I know I don't need the money there tomorrow, it is ok to capture their 5.3% APY. Why am I not 100% confident that the FDIC insured money will be available at the drop of a hat? Because I think if this housing debacle read

all star parade

what i learned from hanging out with a bunch of losers over the weekend in the shadow of microsoft hq

barry-bonds-all-star-parade.jpgparade Once props and people were in Oops… I snuck a few Green River ::: Photos by Josh Yes, that’s right. We youngun’s have a lot of learning to do from the older-but-not-that-much-older generation. Many of our parents would have you think they’re a bunch of burnouts with no prospects, no fashion, and no class. I learned different. Or did I? We’ll get to that later. Saturday The weekend began just before noon in Redmond, at the termination of Microsoft’s private highway out of Seattle, where the expansive Marymoor Park ca read
Just avoid Midtown altogether today
just saw the all star paradeNYC: Statues on Parade - All Star With the MLB All Star Game parade upon us, Sixth Ave. from 42nd St. to 59th St. is closed, and the surrounding area is a mess. The MTA has tossed up a bunch of service alerts mostly relating to bus service along crosstown routes and up Sixth Ave, but certain subway entrances at Times Square, Bryant Park and 57th St. (on the F) are closed as well. These changes are in place until 6 p.m. tonight, and travelers are better avoiding what will be a very crowded area of town today. ©2008 Second Ave. read
Still Yet More About NY
NYC: Statues on Parade - All Star PNC Park for the All-Star Game. Some random extracts from my New York notebook. On my Monday wanderings, I suddenly realise I’m walking past the theatre where ‘Sunday In The Park With George’ is playing, as in the Daniel Evans London production with the animated projections. I’m reminded how lucky I was to see it in its original home, the Menier Chocolate Factory near London Bridge. Just looked it up now to see which theatre this was. Studio 54! As in your actual Studio-fifty-legendary-70s-disco-Warhol-tastic-four. Its ful read

Midtown PSA: Stay Away from 6th Avenue Today
All-Star Parade - Athletes of UAAP All Star Boy This LO is kinda Midtown PSA: Stay Away from 6th Avenue Today If you were hoping to cross the Avenue of the Americas for lunch purposes today, you may be very disappointed.  The MLB All Star Parade will be shutting down 6th Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, from 40th Street all the way up to 58th Street, and while there will be some cross streets open to pedestrians along the route, I think it’s safe to say you should pretty much steer clear of 6th Avenue during lunch;  unless of course you have an intere read

Hiding from the truth

American Spectator in Decembers American Spectator From Michigan comes J B Williams, who says in part: Obama’s useful idiot minions [1] on college campuses across America may have no clue what types of change Obama has in store for America. But every Marxist, Socialist and Communist around the globe, knows all too well…  “We support Barack Obama because he knows what is best for the people!”  This is a very common statement among the many anti-American Americans currently marching in the Obamamania Revolution to force change in America. Sports and National Pride
us to go the American Spectator from what the American spectator Europeans love their football (i.e., American soccer) teams. The lasting effects of an international victory on the collective spirit were evident last week when I spent a few days roaming the streets of bubbly Barcelona. A German friend who was showing me around the Catalan city described the link between spectator sports and national spirit as even more significant for the new Germany. For obvious reasons, for many years displays of national pride “Nationalstolz” associated with the Nazi reg read
Mountain Monday: 300 Bloggers and a Swarm of Angry New Yorkers
AMERICAN SPECTATOR DINNER American Spectator It doesn't always occur to us that our electricity comes from somewhere. But for many people on the east coast, every time we flip on a light switch, we are connected to the blowing up of the oldest mountains in the world - the Appalachian Mountains - where coal is being extracted using a barbaric form of coal-mining called mountaintop removal. This weekend, not only did the iLoveMountains.org Bloggers Challenge hit 300 participants (woah!), but I witnessed several incredible citizens who rea read
MONEY WILL NOT CURE GLOBAL POVERTY
American SpectatorAMERICAN SPECTATORLeaders of several underdeveloped African nations came to the Group of Eight summit in Japan last week and requested more financial aid from G8 countries, says Erin Wildermuth, a Koch Journalism Fellow at the American Spectator. Thus far, only $3.9 billion of the promised $26.1 billion in aid to Africa has been dispersed, according to a report put together by the nonprofit ONE campaign. But when countries receive more aid, the effectiveness of this money is heavily disputed, says Wildermuth: Si read
