Today is Redskins Day
Today Redskins fans the world over proved yet again that we are the best fans in the world. And don’t take my word for it, ESPN anchors Trey Wingo and Tom Jackson agreed that there was more burgundy and gold in the crowd than the colors any other team could muster for a hall of fame induction. I can’t tell you what it means to me to have seen this today. As a Skins fan who is older than he’d like to admit, my love for this team was formed by Art Monk and Joe Gibbs and Darrell Green. Seeing readLook Six NFL Greats Inducted To The Hall of Fame
The NFL today inducted six former greats to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The six players were: DE Fred Dean (1975-1985, San Diego and San Francisco) CB Darrell Green (1982-2002, Washington), WR Art Monk (1980-95, Washington, N.Y. Jets, Philadelphia), CB Emmitt Thomas (1966-78, Kansas City), LB Andre Tippett (1982-93, New England) and OT Gary Zimmerman(1986-1997, Minnesota and Denver). Clearly, this was Washington’s showcase. He’s #81 in your playbook, but you can refer to him from now on as Hall of Famer Art Monk. Former Washington Redskins teammates Art Monk and Darrell Green are among the six players who are about to be enshrined at Canton, Ohio. Monk won three Super Bowls with the Redskins and was the NFL’s single-season receptions leader with 106. He also set a league mark by grabbing at least one pass in 164 consecutive games. Green was a seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback and four-time All Pro who helped the readHall of Fame induction ceremony goes Hog wild

A year ago, I wrote a piece about the anti-Cowboys bias that exists in Hall of Fame voting (in my opinion), especially with regard to Cowboys who played in the 1970s. This bias has affected, of course, Bob Hayes and Chuck Howley, but my more specific concern focuses on those Cowboys who were on the all-decade team of the 1970s yet who are not in the Hall of Fame. This includes free safety Cliff Harris, receiver Drew Pearson, and defensive end Harvey Martin. Of this year’s class, I have no prob read

Streaming live over on NFL.com! Finally, Chiefs‘ legend Emmitt Thomas gets into the NFL Hall of Fame. One more Thomas to go! Congrats, Emmitt. We’ll be watching…proudly. Fred Dean is on now, Darrell Green is next, and then Thomas. At least that is what the schedule indicates. Update: Actually, unfortunately, the schedule was wrong. Thomas has already gone as of 7:00 PM CST. We will pull video of this as soon as it is available. read1970s Cowboys Who (Still) Aren’t in the Hall of Fame

It’s hazy, hot and ungodly humid here in the midwest. In other words, it’s football Hall of Fame weather. Tonight the Bert Blyleven of the NFL, Art Monk (before he actually got in that is), will take his rightful place at the NFL shrine along with former teammate Darrell Green. In addition to the two Skins, Fred Dean (Chargers), Emmitt Thomas (Chiefs), Andre Tippet (Patriots) and Gary Zimmerman (Broncos) will have the ultimate football honor. ESPN has issued an outline for what to look for, al readPro Football HOF Enshrinement 2008
Photo David Kindervater National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast I arrived at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio about half an hour ago. The weather is typically beautiful (78 degrees and mostly sunny today). After parking and getting through security and all that stuff, I took the long way around Fawcett Stadium where this evening’s Enshrinement Ceremony takes place. Almost all of the seats were empty with about three hours to go before things get started. I’m headquartered read
