'Psych' returns with some Shawn mama drama
“Psych” (which returns 9 p.m. July 18, USA) is the most amiable and goofy of detective shows, thankfully. At the height of summer, who wants to clog up the brain with weighty whodunnits? Complicated murder mysteries may make great beach reading, but all things considered, breezy is best for summer procedural viewing. When we last left Shawn Spencer (James Roday), the fake psychic had a shocked look on his face, thanks to one development he definitely didn’t anticipate. His long-absent mothe readJenny’s TV Guide: Friday July 18

Jo’s out-javas those others
That’s the conclusion to draw, I think, from the fact that Starbucks has announced its plans to shutter some 600 of its outlets around the nation, that only two on the big closure list are in Austin, and that one of those two has been in a geographic face-off with local favorite Jo’s Hot Coffee on South Congress. There’s dog-friendly Jo’s, independent stand-alone that sprang up on the pavement where a used-car lot used to be, Jo’s without much shade, Jo’s building a name from scratch as a vent read
Remember when the opening of the state's first Starbucks was BIG news? Ho-hum now. So much so that you might not even care which of the existing Starbucks stores will be closed as a result of a company retrenchment. But the Wall Street Journal has them. Eight are being shut in Arkansas. The only Little Rock-area closure is at 4120 East McCain, North Little Rock. Others are closing in Blytheville, Lowell, Malvern Marion, two in Rogers, including the one on Pinnacle Parkway, and one in Van Bur readOK, Coffee Addicts: Here are the Starbucks That are Closing
Personally, I don’t drink coffee, never have. But for all you caffeine devotees, Starbucks has finally announced which locations it is slashing from its world-domination plan. There are about 600 of them, and they will be closing between now and mid-2009. Here is the long-awaited Starbucks closure list. readThe Starbucks list
The Starbucks list is now out - the list, that is, of hundreds of Starbucks around the country the coffee giant, based in Seattle, plans to close before long. A few words about the Northwest selections. For the most part, the numbers aren’t all that large. In Idaho, just two Starbucks will close - one in Boise on University Drive (take a look at the area and you can see how that location might not have worked out), and one at Meridian on Fairview. Not a massive impact, especially since in bot readFull Starbucks closure list now out, including Jefferson Square
As first reported here last week, the Jefferson Square Starbucks (the standalone store at the NW corner, not the “licensee” stand in the Safeway) is on the list of 600 company-owned stores that will close. Starbucks just released the full official list today. It’s the only West Seattle Starbucks on the list, which includes six other stores in Seattle: 328 15th Ave E, 620 Denny Way, 1220 Howell St., 2201 E. Madison Ave., 1218 N. 45th St., and the “Northgate Mall II” store. No timetable is mentio read

The White House Experience
Mike Greenberg details his experience at the White House yesterday: Our thanks to the folks there, including President Bush, for having us. It was really a pleasure and a privilege. I’ll tell you quickly how it works. So, they bring us in and we have to go through all this security (for obvious reasons) to get into the property. When we get through the gate, the first thing I hear is someone yelling, “Hey! Aren’t you The Gnome?” I swear to you, I’m not making this up. Someone recognizes readGolic Goes Missing From M&M This Morning (Updated)
Really odd happenings going on over the past few days. First it was Joe Morgan disappearing (below) and now Mike Golic is the topic of discussion. A few people emailed me this morning about Golic leaving the set of Mike and Mike this morning but I didn't really pay any mind. A few more people sent in questions this afternoon so I decided to check it out. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal if a host had to leave, but Golic left suddenly and Greenie refused to talk about why the rest of the show readChris Berman: NutriSystem Pitchman?
From the mailbag. Anyone see the Home Run Derby or attend the ESPYs who can confirm Senor Berman’s alleged weight loss? [Wednesday] on The Morning Sports Page on 660 AM (WFNZ Charlotte), the hosts were talking about Berman at the Home Run Derby and noted that he appeared to have lost weight. Show host Gary Williams mentioned that he has heard that Berman will soon be announced as a pitchman for NutriSystem and is in the middle of his weight-loss plan with the company. Two other moderately pro readChanneling Harry Doyle: All-Star Thoughts
I bashed Major League Baseball last week for allowing the All Star Game to become a boring shell of its former self. The game proved to be fairly interesting, even if I was proven right with Terry Francona almost running out of players and the game ending at almost 2 AM Eastern. For those mistakes we can condemn MLB, but the ceremonies before the game were amazing. Hall of Famers were put all around the field at their respective positions and were then joined by the current All Stars from both readChanneling Harry Doyle: All-Star Thoughts
